ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT NEEDED

You will need syringes to collect the blood. The test kit does NOT include blood collection equipment.

The test can be performed with or without a centrifuge:

  • If using whole blood, you will only need a syringe.
  • If using serum or plasma, you will need a syringe and a centrifuge.
TEST INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Read the instructions carefully before starting the test.
  2. Collect a blood sample from the dog (syringes are NOT included). You can use whole blood directly as a sample. Alternatively, you can centrifuge whole blood to obtain plasma or place it in a tube with anticoagulants to obtain serum. Once the sample is ready, the TBD-4 test takes 10–20 minutes to complete.
  3. Prepare the test: Remove the test cassette from the foil pouch and place it on a flat surface.
  4. Mix the sample: Use the enclosed narrow-tip 10-μL dropper to add 2 drops of the specimen (serum, plasma, or whole blood) into the buffer liquid tube.
    Close the tube and shake well to mix.
  5. Apply the sample to the test cassette: Open the tube and use the enclosed wide-tip 40-μL dropper to place 3 drops into each S (sample) window on the cassette.
  6. Wait 5–10 minutes and read the results.

WHAT ARE TICK-BORNE DISEASES (TBD) IN DOGS:
Tick-borne diseases and conditions are usually transmitted to dogs through an infected tick bite. There are several such conditions; some of the most common dog tick-borne diseases in the United States include Lyme disease, Ehrlichiosis, and Anaplasmosis. In most cases, a tick must be attached for 36 to 48 hours or more before the bacterium can be transmitted, but in some cases, it can spread as soon as in 2 hours. However, if a tick is removed quickly, it significantly reduces the dog’s chances of getting infected.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TEST MY DOG FOR TICK-BORNE DISEASE (TBD):
It is recommended to check your dog for Lyme disease, Anaplasma and Ehrlichia annually, as well as 4-6 weeks after tick exposure. Please note that some pets may be infected with a tick-borne disease but never show any symptoms or signs.

HOW DOES THE 4-IN-1 TICK-BORNE DISEASE (TBD-4) A-PET-CARE ONE STEP TEST FOR DOGS WORK:
TBD-4 panel test for dogs is based on sandwich lateral flow immunochromatographic assay (LFIA). The test device has 4 testing windows. The testing window has an invisible T (test) zone and C (control) zone. When sample is applied into the corresponding sample hole on the device, the liquid will laterally flow on the surface of the test strip. If there is enough Babesia,  Ehrlichia, Lyme or Anaplasma antigen or antibodies in the sample, a visible T band will appear. The C line should always appear after a sample is applied, indicating a valid result. This means, the device accurately indicates the presence or absence of corresponding tick-borne pathogen antigen/antibody in the specimen.

Results are ready in 5-10 minutes.
